Welcome to the First Edition of the HGATE Newsletter!

As someone who’s lived in Harrogate for several years, I’ve often found it challenging to keep track of everything happening in our town. Which is why I’ve created this newsletter—to bring together the best dining, drinking, and event experiences in one place, and share them with you.

Each week, I’ll focus on local gems—small cafés, restaurants, and bars—spotlighting the unique spots that make Harrogate special. Along with recommendations, I’ll also provide a curated list of food and drink-related events happening around town. While the content is mainly geared towards adults, I’ll be sure to highlight any family-friendly events as well.

Starling Independent Bar Cafe Kitchen

North Bar

Located opposite Harrogate Theatre, this modern café bar is the northernmost outpost of North Brewing Co. from Leeds. A former shop converted into a cozy space, it serves a great selection of beers, hot drinks, and food. With two hand pumps featuring North Brewing’s own cask beers, alongside a variety of keg taps and fridges stocked with bottles from the UK, USA, and Europe, this bar is perfect for beer lovers.

The space is spread over two levels with additional seating upstairs, all styled with a trendy, semi-industrial décor—think cable trays, metal stools, and caged plants. For an extra bit of fun, the lower level even has a photo booth! The bar opens early, offering coffee, croissants, and cakes, making it a favourite spot for shoppers and coffee enthusiasts alike.
